"Celebrating Success" Event
Clendon Cayad (Community Action Youth and Drugs) is ready to launch its inaugural "Celebrating Success" Awards
being introduced to celebrate local success.
Celebrating Success will be a collaborative effort by the
community and CAYAD to
acknowledge and highlight the positive contributions made by local
volunteers, mentors and young people.
the awards will recognize four key areas:
Sporting,
Academic,
Creative Excellence and
Outstanding Community Services.
Community members are encouraged to nominate people, in particular young people, for these awards.
Friday 15 February saw Clendon CAYAD- Community Action
Youth and Drugs host it’s inaugural
Celebrating Success Awards at Te Matariki Clendon Community Centre and
Library.
The concept of the evening acknowledged and highlighted the positive
contributions made to the community and it’s youth.
It was pleasing to note that all recipients were nominated by local
community members and for most nominees
it was the first time their contributions to their community had been
recognized.
The night was one of emotion for some of our nominees, who were all
supported by not only family members,
but also by community members. Award winners were: Roxathina Falepeau
(Academic Excellence),
Poutu-te-Rangi Edwards (Sporting Excellence), Haley Haimona (Creative
Excellence)
and Taryn Ball (Outstanding Community Excellence).
CAYAD Co-ordinator Winnie Hauraki said
“The message was well received about not just celebrating the youth
achievements,
but also the ability to celebrate and promote the positive family responses
to substances
that threaten the well being of our youth, our families and our
communities”.
Positive comments were well received from all those that attended and the
community look forward to seeing the
“Celebrating Success” awards becoming a regular annual event.
