Problems with a neighbor?
Most people get on well with their neighbors, but others aren't always so
lucky. We want tenants to be able to live peacefully in their homes and,
communities and we will try, to help when serious problems
more serious problems such as harassment or violence.
Managing and resolving disruption is a joint effort between you, your
neighbor, Housing New Zealand and sometimes other, agencies, such as the
Police or the Tenancy Tribunal.
Here are some suggestions for managing conflict:
If the problem isn't too serious you should try to have a chat to your
neighbor about it first. know their behavior is upsetting you, so you may be
able to sort out the problem quickly.
If that doesn't work, or if you're worried about approaching your neighbor,
you should contact your housing/tenancy manager or the appropriate
authority. Noise and animal problems should be reported to your local
council while any criminal behavior (such as property damage, violence or
threats of violence) needs to be reported to the police.
Keep a record of your complaints record the day, time and nature of the
problem, who you contacted and them respond If you have to attend a Tenancy
Tribunal mediation or hearing to resolve the matter that information may be
used as evidence.
